Right Click Here And Save Target As This was an interview from another web site I found in my email from a long time ago.
1. How did you get started djing?
I was invited to a party and the guy behind the decks was an old grammar school friend of mine. I was drawn in so I asked him to teach me. Jose "DJ Scratch" came over that weekend and tried to teach on technics 100s he said if I really wanted to learn to get the technics 12s I got them a s a b-day present a couple months later. The rest is history practiced everyday about 10 hr. A day trying to impress this girl I use to make her a mix tape everyday, for an entire year id wake up at 6 am picked her up dropped her off at school went home made a program and I record it then give to her when I would pick her up from school. If your wondering why I was not in school I dropped out the highest grade I have completed is 8th grade.
2. How long have you been Dee Jaying? 14 years and counting
3. Who were your influences? Well it depends on what. As far as music I started playing the drums in church when I was around 5 years old or so. I also use to sing in church either by myself or duet with my sister. I thank God completely for all of my talent. As far as what DJs inspired me the most...Id have to say the old Chicago b96 mixmasters Bad Boy Bill, Julian Jumpin Perez, Tim Spinnin Schomer, from WGCI Chicago Martin The Boogie Man Luna, Bobby D when he made Crazy Edits 1, Tony Boom Boom Badea his old mix tapes, Naty Boy Nardi his mix tapes, Eddie B House all the loco mixes he made, DJ Sneak when he worked at the old Hip House, Andy Adams R.I.P. founder of strictly hype U.C. and the original owner of Hip House, Josh Mosley big time inspiration and believe it or not every single DJ out there that ever made a mix was the biggest influence from the most famous to the ones barley coming out. There is just something different about Chicago real DJs we have pride and work harder than most other DJs around the country. I think the main reason is because we grew up listing to the best DJs in the world.
4. What is your preferred genre? That question is one that is so hard o answer. I love music all kinds form oldies to rock, freestyle, house, Hip Hop church music even classic music. When I play live I go with the flow what ever gets a crowd singing and dancing I love to be able to take control of the dance floor. But its weird cuz one min ill have them dancing the next they will be singing....I love it.
5. What types of venues have you worked at (clubs, mobile DJ)? All kinds. Iv done huge Lowrider shows concerts to weddings family parties house parties you name it iv done all. Iv headlined all over in Chicago Illinois Texas Mexico Wisconsin Iowa Michigan Indiana, It really does not matter were I play big or small as long as there are people that want to here me DJ Ill play.
6. What are you currently working on? Im currently working on a few projects. Its been a while since iv made a new mix tape. Sad Girl 6, Crying Game 3, Legends Of Freestyle 2 this one is for a label a reggaeton mix and a Hip Hop mix.
7. What are your future plans? Well, id love to make mixes for every single freestyle label but there all shy I guess because they don't know anything about me but if it does not happen oh well. One thing for sure is that im going back to my roots and that's Christian Music or whatever God calls me to do, this is now my priority. Im actually looking for artist that are Christian and want to make Hip Hop r&b freestyle in a Christian format so if your one of those people and you feel God is calling you email me ASAP
I just want to say something to everyone reading this. If you are an inspiring artist DJ producer go with your instinct. Don't try to please everyone please yourself first, people tend to love what is real versus trying to sound like someone else. If you ever hear about someone talking smack about you pray for them as hatred is damaging to there soul don't let it bring you down and don't stoop down to there level by talking ying yang about them. Show them your different eventually your light will shine through the darkness. People always ask me what is your secrete? How come your mixes are so well known? Why do people love your music? The only answer I have is a lot of prayer hard work and being myself. Its flattering when I hear other DJs mixes that sound like mine from my intros to the songs I pick and the way I put the mixes together. It even feels better when people tell you they love your music.
